View words of our school song

With a focus on excellence throughout our curriculum and extra curriculum activities Kelvin Grove State College aims to develop confident, self-directed knowledgeable people who think creatively and critically and are equipped to participate in society’s decision-making processes. Our students on exit should be morally and socially responsible, employable and capable of enjoying life - prepared for further learning and future development.

Kelvin Grove State College builds on the firmly established traditions and foundations of successful secondary and primary schools. The Pre school to Year 12 structure enables the college to explore a range of exciting new opportunities which will benefit students, the local community and the broader, professional community of educators - globally, and offer a greater surety of achieving our ultimate vision.

The college’s forward thinking, exciting and innovative teaching and learning takes place within a school that has strong traditional values with a strict uniform code and a firm discipline policy. The college proudly celebrates the many and varied cultural origins and individual personalities of its students in an environment of tolerance and joy in their diversity.

Our reputation is as a school with a focus on values.

These values are seen to articulate and promote a strong work ethic, an ethos of pride and recognition of social justice and cultural diversity and the values of civic participation.

We are a school with a strong focus on student personal development, where the social outcomes of learning through involvement in decision-making and leadership opportunities and extra-curricular offerings are emphasised, developed and promoted.

We are a school where a broad curriculum with a choice of over fifty subjects in the Senior School is complemented by special Excellence programs and Extension subjects.

Kelvin Grove State College comprises three sub-schools:

  • A Junior School that retains a special "small school" environment for Kindergarten to Year 5
  • A Middle School featuring the innovative New Basics teaching and learning programs for students from Year 6 to 9 and
  • A Senior School, featuring a wide range of subject choices, Schools of Excellence and extension courses for Year 10 to 12 students.

Flexible pathways - Tertiary Links

The college’s strong and established links with the adjoining Queensland University of Technology and other tertiary institutions, along with its vertically structured curriculum, allow students to plot and progress their own learning pathways to tertiary entrance qualifications.

The co-location of the college and the Queensland University of Technology, including its Education and Creative Industries faculties forms a unique precinct that provides a focus on excellence in learning.

Kelvin Grove State College has the largest Performing and Visual Arts Departments in Queensland. The school has an extremely strong Music program. As well as instrumental music lessons, students are encouraged to participate in a range of ensembles or the choir. Our ensembles have been very successful in State championships.

Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a family makes
